При землетрясении на северо-западе Афганистана погибли свыше 2 тыс. человек, еще около 9 тыс. получили ранения. Об этом сообщает Reuters со ссылкой на представителя Министерства по стихийным бедствиям в правительстве, возглавляемым «Талибаном» (движение признано террористическим и запрещено в России).
По словам представителя министерства Муллы Джанана Саика, в результате землетрясения 2053 человека погибли, 9240 получили ранения, 1329 домов были повреждены или разрушены.
Более 200 погибших были доставлены в различные больницы, сообщил Reuters представитель департамента здравоохранения Герата, добавив, что большинство из них — женщины и дети. Тела были «развезены в несколько мест — на военные базы, в больницы», добавил он.
Землетрясение магнитудой 6,3 произошло в 40 км к западу от города Герат в Афганистане в субботу вечером. Оно ощущалось также в соседних провинциях Бадгис и Фарах. После первого землетрясения произошли еще несколько толчков магнитудой 5,9 и 5,5, передавала Геологическая служба США.
Представитель Красного Полумесяца ранее сообщал о 500 погибших в результате подземных толчков.
